In this presentation, I introduce several models the University of Notre Dame has developed and deployed to advance international research collaboration. These models include: regional research collaboration grants, strategic partnership research collaboration grants, and strategic seed grants. After introducing these models, the methodologies for assessing the outcomes of the grant programs are noted. Lastly, the presentation concludes with reflections on institutional opportunities to strategically develop international research collaboration grant programs as a core component of the internationalization of higher education.

International research collaboration in State University of Paraná: Trends and thematic strengths
Oral PresentationInternationalization of Research 10:20 AM - 10:40 AM (America/Sao_Paulo) 2024/04/24 13:20:00 UTC - 2024/04/24 13:40:00 UTC
The absence of effective internationalization strategies in higher education institutions poses significant barriers to interacting and exchanging knowledge and cultures among students from different nations, ultimately restricting their exposure to collaboration opportunities. The implementation of comprehensive internationalization programs plays a crucial role in fostering synergy and collaboration in research, facilitating the exchange of ideas and methodologies among researchers from diverse geographic backgrounds, thus promoting innovation and scientific advancement on a global scale. In the specific context of this investigation, this study aims to identify trends and driving forces for international research at the State University of Paraná (Unespar). To fulfill this aim, a bibliometric analysis was conducted using the RStudio software via the Bibliometrix package, based on a search conducted in the Scopus database using the string ("UNESPAR" OR "State University of Paraná" OR "Universidade Estadual do Paraná"). The research focuses on identifying scientific articles from international collaborations, compiling 119 documents for detailed analysis. Concerning the studied sample, it is noteworthy that Unespar has international cooperation with co-authors from 27 different countries, such as the United States with 50 co-authors, France with 15 co-authors, Canada and Portugal with 11 co-authors each, and Australia and Spain with ten co-authors each. As for the influence of authors, eight researchers from Unespar have at least eight studies in international co-authorship. Regarding research themes, it is highlighted from the thematic map that the driving topics are innovation, biodiversity, genetics, agriculture, and circular economy. These topics are trending internationally, emphasizing that Unespar is making great strides in international research. Finally, it is noted that there are eight collaboration networks at Unespar, with only two connecting in joint research, a point that should be fostered for the institution's future.
